Sand Island Park lies within the city limits of Bethlehem, adjacent to the historic Lehigh Valley in Southeastern Pennsylvania, and encompasses over 347 acres of land along the Lehigh River. Within the park are a number of amenities, including picnic pavilions, playgrounds, athletic fields, a disc golf course, a disc golf driving range, and a volleyball court. A five-mile long loop path circles the park, ideal for people to exercise or just stroll for leisurely activities. The park includes a boat launch, providing excellent access for motorboats and canoes to the river. The river at Sand Island Park is teeming with fish, making it an ideal spot for fishermen. The fish varieties include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, sunfish, white perch, channel catfish, common carp, and brown trout. Fishing is free to all from the banks of the river and can be done from a boat or canoe. Visitors to Sand Island Park can also enjoy swimming in the park's swimming lagoon or participate in recreational activities such as volleyball, disc golf, and tennis, available to anyone with the proper equipment.
